KARACHI: The captain of Pakistan's Test and Twenty20 teams has been snatched from Sarfraz Ahmed and batsman Azhar Ali has been made the new Test captain and Babar Azam has been made the new captain of the Twenty20 team. Sarfraz had a disappointing performance as captain and wicketkeeper batsman in the home series against Sri Lanka, which he suffered. This is a big change in Pakistan cricket after the arrival of new coach Misbah-ul-Haq. However, the ODI captain has not yet been decided.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a press release on Friday that the runner-up captains as well as one-day captains will be announced before the next series. Pakistan will play the Twenty20 series against Australia starting November 3. The 32-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmed's career has also been in crisis since his captaincy and it is difficult for him to be selected for the tour of Australia. His bat was a poor performance against Sri Lanka.

Pakistan has made major changes just before a major tour like Australia has indicated that it wants to start afresh for the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia next year. Chief coach Misbah Sarfaraz was not happy with Pakistan's poor performance in the World Cup and then the recent home series against Sri Lanka.

Azhar Ali will now take command of the Pakistani team at the Test Championship in the 2019-20 season. Azhar has scored 5669 runs in 73 Tests with 15 centuries and 31 half centuries. Pakistan, the seventh-ranked Test team in the world, will play a two-Test series against fifth-ranked Australia. Azhar said it was a matter of pride for me to be the captain of the national team. I will do my best to stand up to the confidence that has been shown to me about the Test Championship.

Pakistan has placed a huge responsibility on the shoulders of young Babar Azam. Babar, captain of the world's number one T20 team, captained the Pakistani team in the U-19 World Cup in 2012. Babar was recently the vice-captain of the team in the series against Sri Lanka. "Being the captain of the world's number one team is my greatest achievement," said Babar. I am ready for this challenge.
